About

Bonita Jewel

Editor. Wordweaver. Storyseeker.

Because Everyone Needs a Back Story 🙂

The daughter of roving missionaries, Bonita’s first memories were of India, where her parents lived for three years. These memories include fainting from the heat, getting sick on an overnight train ride, and enjoying the crisp saltiness of moong dal.

Bonita grew up in California from the age of five to 16. She fainted from the heat there too, read hundreds of books, homeschooled alongside her five siblings, began to write poetry, and graduated from high school at 14.

She returned to India at 16 and called it home for nearly 12 years. During that time, she worked with the Deaf in New Delhi, with college students in Pune, and was involved in ministry work and early childhood education in Bangalore.

After returning to California’s San Joaquin Valley with her husband and their three children, she earned a BA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing. Bonita has been featured in several online and print publications, including upstreet literary journal, Ekstasis Magazine, Bible Advocate, Splickety, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and SEEK Magazine.

A freelance editor since 2010, she has completed over 300 creative writing and editing projects for authors, bloggers, and other clients. She is eager to assist if you need help editing your novel, memoir, or blog posts. She regularly works with authors, providing various levels of editing, from developmental editing to line editing and proofreading.

Bonita also enjoys helping on book launch teams, offering book reviews, social media support, and input to new authors on the scope and potential of the manuscript.

She enjoys working with authors, artists, and creatives, and is eager to launch collaborative projects with others. You can contact her for speaking, workshops, and other engagements.

A freelance editor and writer, Bonita drinks homemade chai with ginger every morning and reads aloud to her children in the evenings. She loves it when rain graces the arid valley she calls home.
